Green Fire Tetras (Aphyocharax rathbuni) are a popular freshwater fish species often kept in home aquariums. They are native to South America, specifically in the Amazon basin in Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. These tetras are named for their distinctive bright green coloration, which is highlighted by a red stripe that runs along their body from head to tail. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least six to eight individuals to reduce stress and encourage natural behavior. Green Fire Tetras are peaceful and can be kept with other community fish that are not aggressive. They prefer a planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places and a pH range between 6.0 to 7.5.
