The Yellow & Purple Wrasse, also known as the White or Four Spot wrasse, is a beautiful fish that originates from the invertebrate-rich waters of Sri Lanka. As a juvenile, it displays a yellow and white/purple coloration with the upper half being yellow and the lower half white to purple. As it matures, the yellow coloration fades to a lovely pink hue. If you are considering adding this species to your reef aquarium, exercise caution as it may feed upon feather dusters, ornamental shrimp, and other similar invertebrates. Therefore, it’s best to avoid housing it with such species. To ensure the well-being of your Yellow & Purple Wrasse, provide it with a 50-gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of live rock and a few inches deep sand bed that it can use for hiding and grazing. Since this species is known for jumping, make sure to have a tight fitting canopy. The Yellow & Purple Wrasse will eat fireworms and pyramidellid snails, which will protect corals and clams. It may also eat feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms, but it should not harm polyps, mushrooms or corals.
