The Astraea Turbo Snail, also known as the Astraea Conehead Snail, is a popular species of saltwater snail that is commonly kept in reef aquariums. It has a unique cone-shaped shell that is typically green or brown in color, with distinctive ridges that run from the apex to the base. These snails are excellent algae eaters and will graze on diatoms, green hair algae, and other types of nuisance algae in the aquarium. They are relatively easy to care for and do well in a range of aquarium sizes, as long as there is plenty of algae for them to eat. Astraea Turbo Snails prefer a moderate to high flow rate and a moderate level of lighting. They can be kept with a variety of other peaceful fish and invertebrates, but may be preyed upon by larger predators, so caution should be taken. Reproduction in the wild occurs through internal fertilization, but breeding in the aquarium is rare. If a female snail does become pregnant, she will lay small, whitish eggs that will hatch into free-swimming larvae. It is best to leave the larvae to develop in the aquarium, as they are difficult to raise in captivity.
