The Bleeding Heart Tetra, also known as the Red-Striped or Marbled Characin, is a peaceful freshwater fish native to South America. As its name suggests, it is characterized by a bright red “bleeding heart” patch on its silver body. They grow to be around 2.5 inches in length and prefer to be kept in groups of at least six in a well-planted aquarium with plenty of swimming space. They are generally easy to care for and feed, accepting a variety of foods. They can also be kept with other peaceful community fish, but should not be housed with aggressive species.
