The Bluestripe Snapper, also known as Lutjanus kasmira, is a popular marine fish species that belongs to the Lutjanidae family. As the name suggests, the Bluestripe Snapper has a blue stripe running along the length of its body, with a silver to yellowish background coloration. They are widely distributed across the Indo-Pacific region, from the east coast of Africa to the central Pacific islands. They are generally found in coral reefs, lagoons, and shallow waters with sandy or rocky bottoms. They are known to form schools and can grow up to 16 inches in length. In the wild, they primarily feed on small fishes, crustaceans, and other invertebrates. Bluestripe Snappers are popular in the aquarium trade and can be kept in large aquariums with plenty of live rock and hiding places. They require a varied diet consisting of meaty foods such as frozen shrimp, squid, and krill, as well as high-quality marine pellets and flakes. It’s important to provide them with a suitable environment that mimics their natural habitat, including appropriate lighting and water flow.
