The Candy Cane Tetra (Hyphessobrycon sp. “Candy Cane”) is a small, peaceful, schooling fish that is popular among hobbyists. These fish are named for their distinctive candy cane-like stripes, which are black or dark brown and alternate with a light, silvery color. They are relatively easy to care for and can be kept in groups of six or more in a well-planted aquarium with plenty of swimming space. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water with a pH of around 6.5-7.0 and a temperature range of 72-78°F. In the wild, Candy Cane Tetras are found in the clear, slow-moving waters of the Amazon basin. They are omnivorous and will readily accept a variety of flake, pellet, and frozen foods. Overall, Candy Cane Tetras are a great addition to a community aquarium and can provide a lot of color and activity to the tank.
