The Black Banded Cat Shark (Chiloscyllium punctatum) is a small, bottom-dwelling shark that is found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the waters of Southeast Asia and northern Australia. They are usually around 60-70 cm (24-28 inches) in length when fully grown and have a distinct pattern of black bands and dots on a light brown or grey body. In the wild, Black Banded Cat Sharks feed on a variety of small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. They are typically nocturnal and prefer to rest on the ocean floor during the day, often hiding under rocks or in crevices. In terms of aquarium care, Black Banded Cat Sharks require a large tank (at least 180 gallons) with plenty of hiding places, live rock, and a sandy substrate. They are carnivorous and should be fed a varied diet of small live and frozen foods, such as shrimp, squid, and small fish. It is important to provide adequate filtration and to monitor water quality closely.
