The Figure 8 Puffer, also known as the Figure Eight Puffer or the Eye Spot Puffer, is a popular freshwater fish in the pufferfish family. It gets its name from the distinctive black spot on its body that resembles the number 8 or an eye. This fish is native to Southeast Asia and can be found in the brackish waters of rivers and estuaries. They are known for their curious and active personalities. They have a unique swimming style where they use their pectoral fins to “fly” through the water. They are also carnivorous and require a diet high in protein, which can be provided through live or frozen foods such as shrimp, krill, and bloodworms. It is important to note that Figure 8 Puffers are territorial and should be housed with similar-sized fish in a tank that has plenty of hiding places and swim-throughs. They also require specific water parameters, including a salinity level of 1.005-1.008 and a pH range of 7.0-8.0. With proper care and attention, Figure 8 Puffers can live for several years in captivity.
