The Frogspawn Coral, also known as the Wall, Octopus, Grape, or Honey Coral, is a species of large polyp stony coral that is native to the Indo-Pacific region. It gets its common names from its fleshy polyps that resemble the shape of frog eggs or tentacles of an octopus. The polyps of the Frogspawn Coral are usually green or brown, but can also be pink, yellow, or purple. They have long, slender tentacles that extend during the day to capture planktonic organisms and retract at night for protection. The coral’s skeleton is made up of calcium carbonate and is usually brown or gray. Frogspawn Corals are relatively easy to care for and are a popular choice for beginner reef aquarists. They require moderate to high lighting and moderate water flow. They can also tolerate a wide range of water conditions, but prefer stable and consistent parameters. In the wild, they are typically found in shallow, protected areas such as lagoons and fringing reefs.
