The Gold Tetra (Hemigrammus rodwayi) is a small freshwater fish that is popular in the aquarium hobby. As its name suggests, this tetra has a distinctive golden coloration that can vary from bright yellow to a darker bronze. Captive-bred specimens tend to have a more intense and uniform coloration than wild-caught individuals. Gold Tetras are peaceful and do well in community aquariums with other non-aggressive fish of similar size. They prefer soft to moderately hard water with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, and a temperature range of 72-79°F (22-26°C). A well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places and open swimming areas is recommended. Gold Tetras are omnivores and will accept a variety of prepared and live foods.
