July 13, 2023Green Branching Starburst Polyp
The Green Branching Starburst Polyp is a stunning coral that quickly covers adjacent rock work, coral, or even the glass of an established reef aquarium. It is an encrusting coral that grows rapidly and creates a visually impressive living carpet of color reminiscent of a field of underwater wildflowers. This peaceful coral has the defensive capability of being able to retract or deflate each of its polyps in response to predation. The Green Branching Starburst Polyp requires a moderate light level combined with medium water movement within the aquarium. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of iodine and other trace elements to the water. It is easy to maintain, making it a good choice for beginner reef aquarists. The Green Branching Starburst Polyp will reproduce easily in the reef aquarium by budding (splitting off a portion of their base or mouth) to increase the size of the colony. It contains the symbiotic algae zooxanthellae, which satisfies almost all of its nutritional requirements. If the lighting is not optimal, the Green Branching Starburst Polyp should be fed micro-plankton or baby brine shrimp.
