The Hooded Fairy Wrasse, also known as the Lyretail Wrasse or the Bluehead Wrasse, is a small and colorful marine fish species that is native to the western Pacific Ocean. The male Hooded Fairy Wrasse has a striking appearance, with a blue head and a bright orange and red body. The tail is long and lyre-shaped, hence its common name. Female Hooded Fairy Wrasses have a more muted coloration, with a pale orange body and a white belly. These fish are generally peaceful and can be kept in a community reef aquarium with other peaceful fish species. They require a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding places and a sandy substrate. Hooded Fairy Wrasses are known to jump out of aquariums, so it is important to have a tight-fitting lid. They are also known to bury themselves in the substrate at night, so the sand bed should be at least a few inches deep. Hooded Fairy Wrasses are carnivorous and should be fed a varied diet of small meaty foods such as frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other small crustaceans.
