The Blue Dot Jawfish, also known as the Bluespotted Jawfish or Pearly Jawfish, is a small and colorful species of fish found in the western Atlantic Ocean. As their name suggests, they have a distinctive blue spot on their body, which contrasts with their otherwise white and silver coloration. They are burrowing fish and are often found in sandy substrates. They create burrows in the sand, which serve as their shelter and breeding sites. They are also known for their unique behavior of picking up small rocks and shells in their mouth and then spitting them out elsewhere, a behavior known as “displacement digging.”
