Lamarck’s Angelfish, also known as the spotted-gill angelfish or Lamark’s angelfish, is a species of marine angelfish found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea and the coast of East Africa to Samoa, Line Islands and the Marquesan Islands in French Polynesia. It is named after the French naturalist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. It is a striking fish with a deep blue-black body and bright yellow vertical bars that extend from the belly to the back. It has a distinctive yellow-edged black mask around its eyes, and its gill covers are spotted with bright blue dots. Lamarck’s Angelfish can grow up to 40 cm (16 inches) in length and prefers to inhabit coral-rich areas in lagoons and outer reefs.
