The Maculated Top Shell Snail, scientific name Calliostoma maculosum, is a species of sea snail that belongs to the Calliostomatidae family. This species is native to the eastern Pacific Ocean, from southern California to Baja California, Mexico. The Maculated Top Shell Snail has a conical shell that can reach up to 5 cm in diameter. Its shell is usually dark brown or black with distinct white or yellow spots that form spiral rows on the shell. The shell also has a sharp ridge around the middle and a tall, pointed apex. This species of snail is commonly found in rocky intertidal areas and shallow waters up to 90 meters deep. It feeds mainly on algae and detritus and is an important part of the coastal food chain. Despite being a popular species in the aquarium trade, little is known about its ecology and biology in the wild.
