Mushroom Coral, Spotted

The Hammer Coral, also known as Euphyllia ancora, is a popular species of LPS (large polyp stony) coral in the aquarium trade. The branching variety of this coral has elongated, branching tentacles that resemble a hammer or anchor. This coral is relatively easy to care for and can thrive in a variety of lighting and water flow conditions. It prefers moderate to high water flow and low to moderate lighting, and it benefits from regular feedings of small meaty foods, such as brine shrimp or mysis shrimp. The Hammer Coral can come in a range of colors, including green, brown, and pink. It is a hardy and fast-growing species that can add movement and texture to a reef aquarium. It is also known to exhibit a unique behavior known as “sweeper tentacles,” in which it extends long, stinging tentacles to defend its territory against neighboring corals.
