The Penguin Tetra (Thayeria boehlkei) is a peaceful and hardy schooling fish that is ideal for beginner and experienced aquarists alike. They are native to South America and are typically found in slow-moving waters in areas with dense vegetation. Penguin Tetras have a silver body with a black stripe that runs from the base of the tail to the tip of the snout, resembling a penguin. They are social and should be kept in groups of at least six individuals, but the larger the group, the better. These tetras prefer soft, slightly acidic water, and a well-planted aquarium with plenty of swimming space. They are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods.
