Porcelain crabs are small, delicate crabs that belong to the family Porcellanidae. They are typically less than an inch in size and have a distinctive flattened body shape with large front claws. Porcelain crabs are usually found in shallow, tropical waters, often in association with coral reefs or rocky substrate. They are filter feeders, using their feather-like appendages to capture planktonic food from the water column. One of the most striking features of porcelain crabs is their striking coloration, with bright red, orange, or purple hues often contrasting with white or black spots or stripes. Some species have even been known to change color to blend in with their surroundings. Porcelain crabs are relatively peaceful and can be kept in a reef aquarium as long as they have plenty of hiding places and a steady supply of food. However, they are sensitive to changes in water quality and require a well-established aquarium with stable water parameters. In addition, they may be susceptible to predation by larger fish and invertebrates.
