The Sailfin Tang, Desjardini, also known as the Indian Ocean Sailfin Tang, is a popular species of tang that is native to the Indian Ocean. As its name suggests, this tang has a distinctive sail-like dorsal fin that is used to attract mates and intimidate rivals. They have a bright yellow body with blue highlights on their fins and face. They are relatively large, growing up to 16 inches in length, and require a spacious aquarium with plenty of swimming room. They are generally peaceful with other fish but can become territorial with other tangs and fish with similar body shapes. In the wild, Sailfin Tangs feed on algae and other plant material, so they require a diet that includes plenty of greens. In captivity, they can be fed a variety of prepared foods, including algae sheets and pellets, as well as fresh vegetables like spinach and zucchini. They should be fed several small meals throughout the day to prevent overeating and digestive issues.
