The Upside Down Jellyfish (Cassiopea spp.) is a unique and intriguing species that is often kept in home aquariums by experienced marine enthusiasts. Unlike most other jellyfish species, the Upside Down Jellyfish spends most of its time on the substrate of the aquarium rather than swimming in the water column. As its common name suggests, this jellyfish is often found resting on the bottom of the aquarium with its bell facing downward, exposing its oral arms and tentacles to the water above. The Upside Down Jellyfish is relatively hardy and can tolerate a wide range of water conditions, including low salinity and poor water quality. However, they do require adequate water flow to help distribute nutrients and oxygen throughout the aquarium, as well as to remove waste and debris. A gentle, circular flow is recommended to keep the jellyfish suspended in the water column without causing excessive stress or damage to its delicate body. In terms of diet, the Upside Down Jellyfish is primarily a filter feeder, using its oral arms and tentacles to capture small planktonic organisms from the water. However, they can also be fed small meaty items such as baby brine shrimp or finely chopped seafood. It is important to avoid overfeeding, as excess food can lead to poor water quality and potentially harm the jellyfish.
