Sea Hare Algae Slugs (Dolabella auricularia)
Call for PriceThe Dolabella Sea Hare, also known as the Sea Hare or the California Sea Hare, is a type of sea slug that belongs to the family Aplysiidae. It is found along the Pacific coast of North America, from Alaska to Baja California. They have a large, oval-shaped body that can grow up to 30 cm (12 inches) in length. Its color can vary from reddish-brown to purple-brown, and it has two pairs of tentacles on its head that are used for sensing and navigation. It also has a large, flat foot that it uses to crawl along the ocean floor. One of the most distinctive features of the Dolabella Sea Hare is its ability to release a purple ink when threatened. This ink contains chemicals that can irritate and repel potential predators. In addition to this defensive mechanism, the Dolabella Sea Hare is also able to swim short distances by flapping its large, wing-like parapodia.
