The Yellow Back Goatfish, or Mulloidichthys martinicus, is a species of goatfish found in the Western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from Florida to Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. It has a yellow to pinkish-red body with a distinctive black spot on the dorsal fin. The tail fin is deeply forked, and the head has two barbels that it uses to sift through sand for food. This species is commonly found in sandy areas near coral reefs and seagrass beds, where it feeds on small invertebrates, crustaceans, and other small organisms. It is also an important food fish in many parts of its range. The Yellow Back Goatfish is generally peaceful and can be kept in a community aquarium with other non-aggressive species. It prefers a sandy substrate with plenty of hiding places, and can be fed a variety of foods including frozen or live brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods.
