McCosker’s Flasher Wrasse, also known as Paracheilinus mccoskeri, is a small, colorful species of wrasse that is popular in the aquarium trade. They are native to the Western Pacific, particularly around Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Males of this species have a stunning coloration, with a bright blue head and dorsal fin, a yellow-orange body, and vibrant red and white stripes on the tail. Females have a more subdued coloration with a tan body and black spots. In the aquarium, McCosker’s Flasher Wrasse requires a well-established reef environment with plenty of hiding places and open swimming areas. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish, but may become territorial towards other wrasses. They are carnivorous and require a varied diet of meaty foods such as small crustaceans and frozen mysis shrimp.
