The Lyretail Wrasse, also known as the Lunare Wrasse, is a stunning fish with a distinctive lyre-shaped tail. It is native to the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. Juvenile Lyretail Wrasses have a greenish-blue body with a white stripe on their lateral line, while adults have a greenish-blue body with a striking black and white pattern on their fins and tail. Lyretail Wrasses require a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons and should be provided with plenty of hiding places, such as live rock and coral. They are generally peaceful, but can become territorial with other wrasses, so it’s best to keep only one male in a tank. Females can be kept in groups. These fish are carnivores and require a varied diet consisting of meaty foods, including frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, krill, and other marine-based meaty foods. They should be fed several small meals throughout the day, rather than one large meal. Lyretail Wrasses may also eat small crustaceans, such as amphipods and copepods, found in live rock and sand.
