The egg of the Banded Cat Shark is a small, leathery, and dark-colored capsule that is typically laid in pairs or clusters by the female. The eggs are attached to rocks or other structures on the sea floor using adhesive tendrils on the corners of the capsule. After a gestation period of approximately 3-4 months, the eggs hatch and small, fully-formed sharks emerge. At birth, the young are around 4-5 inches in length and are immediately able to swim and fend for themselves. Breeding Banded Cat Sharks in captivity has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many hobbyists and professional breeders successfully raising and releasing healthy populations back into the wild.
