The Candy Cane Wrasse (Hologymnosus rhodonotus) is a popular fish in the aquarium trade, also known as the Redback Ring Wrasse, Redback Longface Wrasse, and Red Cigar Wrasse. As juveniles, they are white with red stripes, but they change colors as they mature. These wrasses are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish. However, they may become territorial towards other wrasses or fish with similar body shape and size. The Candy Cane Wrasse should be kept in an aquarium with a minimum size of 50 gallons with plenty of live rock and sand substrate. They require hiding places and open swimming areas. The Candy Cane Wrasse is an active swimmer and may jump out of the aquarium, so a tightly fitting lid is necessary. A varied diet consisting of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and krill is ideal for the Candy Cane Wrasse. They may also accept high-quality marine pellet and flake foods. The Candy Cane Wrasse is a hardy fish and can make a colorful addition to a reef or fish-only aquarium.
