Horseshoe crabs are ancient marine arthropods that have existed for over 450 million years. They have a hard exoskeleton and a distinctive horseshoe-shaped body that gives them their name. Horseshoe crabs are typically found in shallow coastal waters along the eastern coast of North America and in parts of Asia. In the aquarium hobby, horseshoe crabs are often kept for their unique appearance and scavenging abilities. They are hardy and relatively easy to care for, but require a sand substrate to burrow in and plenty of hiding places. Horseshoe crabs should be provided with a diet of small pieces of fish, shrimp, or other meaty foods. It is important to note that horseshoe crabs are not true crabs, and do not have true legs or claws. They are more closely related to spiders and scorpions. Additionally, horseshoe crabs are not recommended for consumption, as their eggs may contain harmful toxins.
