The Lavender Tang, also known as the Spot-Cheeked Surgeonfish, is a striking fish with a unique coloration that combines shades of lavender and tan. This fish has a distinctive pattern of orange spots on its face that contrasts with the rest of its body which is covered in many small black spots. The tail is forked, adding to its graceful appearance. To keep a Lavender Tang healthy and happy, a 125-gallon aquarium or larger with plenty of open swimming room is necessary. This fish requires a well-maintained aquarium with excellent water quality and plenty of live rock to provide hiding places and grazing opportunities. A herbivore, the Lavender Tang feeds mainly on marine algae and seaweed, but will also accept high-quality commercial foods such as spirulina, algae sheets, and other vegetable-based preparations. With proper care, the Lavender Tang can thrive in a home aquarium and become a beautiful addition to a reef tank.
