The Marble Wrasse, also known as the Hortulanus Wrasse (Halichoeres hortulanus), is a colorful species of marine fish that belongs to the family Labridae. They are native to the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, and can be found in coral reefs and lagoons at depths ranging from 3 to 30 meters. They are relatively small, reaching a maximum length of about 15 cm. They have an elongated body shape and are characterized by their colorful pattern of green, pink, blue, and yellow bands on their body. The head of the Marble Wrasse is usually green with a pinkish-red forehead and eye area. Juvenile Marble Wrasse have a different appearance from adults, with a predominantly green coloration and a more rounded body shape. They also have black and white spots on their body. Marble Wrasse are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish in a reef aquarium, but they may become aggressive towards other wrasse species or similarly shaped fish. They require a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding places and live rock for grazing. They are omnivorous and will feed on a variety of foods including meaty foods, algae, and small invertebrates.
