The Green Wrasse (Halichoeres chloropterus) is a species of marine fish found in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Massachusetts to the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. They are commonly found in coral reefs, rocky bottoms, and seagrass beds. Green wrasses have a slender, elongated body with a pointed head and a slightly forked tail. They are predominantly green in color with darker green vertical bars along their body. The males can have more vivid colors, especially during mating season, with a bright blue-green head and a yellow-green body. These wrasses are generally peaceful and can be kept in a reef aquarium, but they are active swimmers and require plenty of swimming space. They are known to eat small crustaceans, worms, and other small invertebrates, and should be fed a varied diet of meaty foods and vegetable matter. Green wrasses are popular aquarium fish and are relatively easy to care for. They can grow up to 10 inches (25 cm) in length and require a tank size of at least 75 gallons (283 liters) to accommodate their active swimming behavior. It is important to maintain good water quality and provide plenty of hiding spaces and live rock for them to explore.
