The Silver Dollar, also known as Metynnis argenteus, is a popular freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. As the name suggests, it has a round, disc-like body shape and a silver coloration with black markings on its fins. The species is native to South America and is found in rivers, streams, and flooded forests. In the aquarium, they require a spacious tank with plenty of swimming room and hiding places, as well as a varied diet that includes both plant matter and meaty foods. They are typically peaceful, but can become aggressive towards smaller fish and their own species, especially during breeding. Due to their active swimming behavior and attractive appearance, Silver Dollars are often kept in groups in large community tanks.
